Twelve writers. Twelve Stories

According to the Metropolitan Police, on average each year 12 young women are killed in the UK in the name of familly ‘honour’. Shocked and moved by true stories of these killings twelve writers collaborated with Janet Steel to create a unique theatre event that gives voice to these lost lives.

Twelve monologues, one from each writer, each exploring some aspect of the lives on one of these murdered women were woven togther to create a moving and poignant piece of theatre.

An extraordinary experiment

Twelve was an extraordinary experiment Twelve writers, including Anu Kumar, were chosen to write monologues of verbatim theatre exploring Honour Killings.

The work was also shown at The Tristan Bates Theatre in Covent Garden (December 2013) to silent and moving non ending applause and very positive feedback from the audience for the work to continue.

The proceeds of the event and booklets were donated to women’s hostels.

The work was featured on radio including Women’s Hour on Radio 4.
